URDB FAQ

Below are some frequently asked questions about the Universal Record Database. If you can't find an answer to your question, please contact us and ask directly.

How does this project differ from Guinness World Records?
While URDB and Guinness World Records both document the ultimate in human achievement, our methods and philosophies are very different.

Guinness Book generally asks for record attempts to be witnessed by official Guinness adjucators. URDB relies on a community approval method that takes faith in its members to witness, document and vote on records in an honest and accurate manner.

URDB also never judges records for being too obtuse. While Guinness and others have done a tremendous job documenting certain record categories, URDB believes there are millions of new, untouched records waiting to be set.
How are records judged?
People submitting records will provide as much evidence as possible of their attempt, including video, photos, witness information and so on. The community will look at this evidence and collectively vote on whether a record should be validated.

Over time, we expect a deeper set of rules and guidelines to emerge, all shaped and defined by the URDB community.
I set a record years ago but don't have evidence. Can I submit it?
You're welcome to submit any record you want. If it lacks accurate documentation, however, it's unlikely the URDB community will be able to verify it.
Some of your records clearly aren't universal records. Why are they included?
URDB's ultimate plan is to create a classification system that includes both universal and divisional records. The system is still a work-in-progess, but we'd love to hear your ideas.
I have a record in the Guinness Book. Can I submit it to URDB, too?
Yes. Just make sure you own the rights to whatever media documentation you submit.
Who's behind URDB?
You can read about the founders here. They are building the site and will serve as stewards of the project, but URDB really belongs to you, the record setting/record viewing community.
Volunteer witnesses? An infinite number of categories? How do you expect people to take URDB seriously?
We have great faith in the power of the collective.
